Omaha Hi Low: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The players will need to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in nearly all poker games.
A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
Although it seems complex at the start, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting assortment of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high hand, and several shooting for the low. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
