Wisconsin Casinos, The Top Three

Apr 26th, 2009 Posted in Craps | 9 comments »

I have been gambling in Wisconsin since I was 16 years old! I snuck in for two years straight. After legally gambling at the age of 18 for a few months they moved the age limit up to 21. So I was forced to sneak in for a few more years. I only played blackjack. I hate slots and it would be my luck to hit a jackpot and not be able to claim it because I was under age. So, since the age of 16 I have played at nearly every casino in Wisconsin. I am a diehard gambler and many times when I was just 16 I would drive 2 hrs to Ho Chunk casino. All the time at risk of not getting in as I was only 16!

So lets start with my favorite and move down.

1. Oneida Bingo and Casino in Greenbay WI.

Oneida is like Las Vegas in Wisconsin. Well not quite, but they do have nearly all the games Vegas offers. Blackjack, Craps, Let it Ride, Roulette, Caribbean Stud, Bingo, POKER! And a sports book. Poker and the Sports book are just down the road at their Mason St casino and you can take a shuttle back and forth. Oneida is one of the only casinos in Wisconsin to offer all of these games.

2. Potowotomi Bingo and Casino

The "Pot" has Blackjack and Craps, Let it Ride, Roulette and POKER. They are however always packed. Located near downtown Milwaukee and being a newer casino they are always busy. It can be difficult to get on a table. They do have a nice little poker room. They also have some great food at the "Firepit" sporstbar and grill.

3. HoChunk Bingo and Casino in Wisconsin Dells

"The Chunk" was great for a while. At one time they had the first poker room in Wisconsin. And they had a variety of games for a while. When it came time to pay Uncle Sam they decided it wasn't worth it. So they lost the poker room and variety of table games. Now they just have Blackjack, Slots and Bingo. It is a great casino to visit when vacationing in the Dells, but if driving from Milwaukee I would choose the 2-hour drive to Oneida over "The Chunk".

Enjoy

The Secrets of Chuck-A-Luck

Apr 25th, 2009 Posted in Craps | no comment »

Pssst…! Wanna know a secret?

How about the secrets of the dice game Chuck-A-Luck?

Chuck-A-Luck (also called Bird Cage) is becoming popular once again, and several casinos have a chuck-a-luck game, but it is usually found in the slot machine area rather than with the table games. Long ago, along with Hazard, it was the forerunner of craps.

You may see a large dice "Bird Cage" with a handle on the side filled with three large dice.

The "dealer" will announce to onlookers "The Best game there is - Three winners and three losers - Bet Just $1 - Easiest money you'll ever make!" Sounds like a good 50/50 proposition, but it's a little more complicated than that.

Wanna know the secrets that dice pros use to play Chuck-A-Luck?

Let's find out!

Underneath the large wire Chuck-A-Luck cage is a layout vaguely reminiscent of a craps game. It is usually green, with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 printed on top. You place $1 on any of the numbers and if your number appears on any one die, you get even money. If your number appears on two dice, you get 2:1 ($2). If it appears on all three dice, you get 3:1 ($3). The game begins when all six numbers have a bet placed on them.

Although on the surface this looks pretty good, let's look at what is really happening here.

If two 2’s and one 3 are thrown the bank pays $2 to whoever bet on the 2 and $1 to whoever bet on the 3. Those who bet the 1, 4, 5 and 6 all lose. In this case there are two winners and four losers. So the "house" takes in $6 and pays out $3.

Now let's say the dealer rolls three fours. Whoever bet on the four wins $3, but all five other bettors lose $1.

The dealer's original claim of three winners and three losers is true, but only applies if all three dice are different. If he rolls for example, 2, 3, 4 then three people will win $1 each and three people will lose $1 each.

If you figure out the casino edge for this game it is about 7%, which is not so good compared to other casino games. Plus, there is no strategy involved, it is purely a game of luck.

If you see Bird Cage or Chuck-A-Luck at a County Fair, beware of cheating. Watch out for a setup where the bottom of the cage is less than one inch from the supporting box. This could signify a foot operated magnet that the "dealer" uses to alter the outcome so he wins more and you win less. You don't have to worry about this in casinos because the 7% house edge is more than enough for them.

So, even though this dice game might be a lot of fun to play, a regular craps game might provide a little more profit.

Pssst…! Now you know the secrets of playing Chuck-A-Luck!

The Dish: Deep In The Heart Of Vincent

Apr 18th, 2009 Posted in Craps | no comment »

Let me shed my veil of objectivity.

I write about college football with quasi-regularity, and am encouraged by my boss, the intrepid (and brilliant handicapper) Brian Gabrielle, not to place bets or make picks on games that involve teams I care about. This is good advice, and as I say, Brian has a rare gift for handicapping, so I try and follow his lead. So you may read my handicapping column for college football, but you’ll rarely see me weigh in on the University of Michigan, for whom I’ve had an unexplained affinity since I was six years old, and the University of Texas, where I went to graduate school. (It’s not hard to avoid writing about my undergraduate institution, Cornell, who would most assuredly lose to many high school teams in Florida, Texas and California.) However, that doesn’t mean I don’t follow these schools. In fact, I’m a rabid maniac incapable of objectivity when it comes to either maize-and-blue or burnt orange.

So let me just say that last Wednesday was one of the better nights of my life.

I’m not married (gee, wonder why), and don’t have kids, so as of right now, national championships are the only births I can celebrate. (God, did that sound as sad to read as it felt to type?) The Red Sox winning the Series, the Patriots and Cowboys winning Super Bowls, and now UT pulling off the insane, the impossible, the greatest comeback win in a big situation I’ve ever seen: down 12 with four minutes to go, Vince Young proves to be the messiah in orange, and I still have no functioning vocal chords.

To the kind souls who allowed me to watch the game at their party, I thank you from the bottom of my nacho-cheese-stained heart, and I apologize for all the yelling. When my kid asks me about the birds and the bees at some point in the future (assuming, well, you know…), and he wonders if sex feels really really good, I’ll tell him it does, it most assuredly does.

But not quite as good as Texas 41, USC 38.

Here we are on the cusp of the NFL playoffs—the most wonderful time of the year. For you, what are the leading storylines heading into the tournament?

Rob Gillespie, BoDog.com: Coaches! Playoff teams always seem to bleed off assistants and with eight head coach vacancies I can see there being lots of attention. I know teams are not allowed to approach assistants until after the season, but rumors spread pretty quick. The Colts have to be the other big story…can they get back to their winning ways? If they can, they are easily the team to beat.

You don’t have to answer, but you know I have to ask: Who’s going to be in Detroit for Super Bowl Xtra Large?

RG, BoDog.com: I can safely say there will be a team from the AFC and a team from the NFC. I still like the Colts. Yes, they won’t have played a meaningful game for a month when they first play (and that opponent could very well be the Patriots) but Indy was 0-5 in the preseason if I remember right and managed to turn it on pretty well to start the regular season! From the NFC side, it really is a crapshoot. Any of those teams are capable of a two- or three-game winning streak, but you have to like one of Seattle or Chicago just because they only need to win a pair and they are at home resting this weekend.

What do you make of all the coaching firings on the NFL? Are there really eight new guys out there who are worthy of being NFL head coaches?

RG, BoDog.com: There will be some recycling of these guys (Capers, Sherman, Mariucci could land jobs with other teams) as some just weren’t right for the dynamic they were in, so I expect there only to be around six new head coaches. And yes, there are probably at least six guys who have been coordinators that can step and do the job. The question is: why are some of the GMs still keeping their jobs? I’ve waxed rhapsodic enough about the University of Texas. What’s your take on last Wednesday night’s national championship game in college football?

RG, BoDog.com: Wow. I haven’t thought Reggie Bush was #1 pick material and he showed why last night. Playing on a field with big, fast defenders he didn’t look like Superman. Leinart looked better then I expected, although his touch passes just never seemed to work, and should be at the top of the draft. But the story of the game is easily Vince Young. I wasn’t a believer but I am now. He showed the poise that seems to escape Michael Vick; it reminded me of McNair in 1999 when the Titans went to the Super Bowl. My only disappointment is that the game lived up the hype and the BCS is off the hook for another year….

Riverboat Casinos and Casino Cruises-Then and Now

Apr 16th, 2009 Posted in Craps | no comment »

Long before the online gambling revolution and even before the boost of tribal casinos, a casino cruise was the only legal way to gamble in the US besides Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos. Nowadays, gambling on a riverboat casino is only one of the many options that the recreational gambler faces when he feels like shooting dice.

The history of casino cruises and riverboat casinos in the United States goes back to the beginning of the 19th century when the Mississippi River was a major trade center for farmers and merchants. The river towns became major attraction for professional gamblers, also known as cardsharps, who were hunting the travelers who used to carry large amounts of cash with them.

When five cardsharps were lynched in Mississippi in 1835, the professional gamblers drove away from the south. The fashion of riverboat gambling remained as an informal routine between travelers. The two decades before the Civil War saw the pick of luxurious riverboat casino gambling.

The public image of the average riverboat gambler has changed a lot in the last century. If during the 19th century riverboat gambling was part of the frontier lifestyle, nowadays, a casino cruise is something you would buy for your grandparents anniversary.

The first State to legalize casino riverboats was Iowa in 1989. Now, riverboat casinos are legalized in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and Texas. In some states, the casino riverboats actually sail along the sea, while others are anchored permanently and never leave the dock. The second type of riverboat casinos enable recreational gamblers to simply hop on a nearby casino and play their favorite casino game for a few hours.

The types of casino games available in riverboat casinos vary from one state to another. You can usually play slot machines and classic table games such as blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat, etc. Some of the riverboat casinos also have poker rooms where passengers can play Texas Holdem against each other. Most of the casino cruises are family oriented and offer other activities besides gambling such as live entertainment for children.

If you are planning to take part in a casino cruise, you do not have to worry about cardsharps or a tough competition around the poker table. Most of the people who join a casino cruise are recreational gamblers who appreciate a good game of craps in between fine dining and sun tanning on the dock. In addition, you would enjoy a much nicer and patient service from the casino dealers and employees than in an average Las Vegas casino.

If spending a weekend on a riverboat casino is too much for you, you can try some of Florida daily casino cruises. If you take Sterling Casino Lines cruise, for example, you can leave at 11 am and be back by 18 pm. Sterling Casino Lines cruises take place on a 75,000 square feet gambling area with more than 1,000 slot machines and 50 table games.

Sterling Casino Line cruise is only one example from numerous options available around the states for those of you who want to gamble at the country rivers, lakes and seas. The variety of casino cruises and dockside riverboat casinos includes the most luxurious Las Vegas styles casinos and simpler alternatives. If you enjoy gambling just for fun and you tend to get sea sick, joining a casino cruise can be an enjoyable distraction for one day or for a whole weekend.

Online Gambling Games

Apr 13th, 2009 Posted in Craps | no comment »

Online gambling is the usual term used for gambling using the Internet. Different forms of online gambling are online poker, online casinos, online sports betting, online bingo, mobile gambling, etc. Online gambling games can be divided into two groups based on their interface: web-based gambling games and downloadable gambling games. In the downloadable format, it requires the gambler to download certain software to play these games. Some online gambling sites offer more than one interface.

There are over 100 online gambling games available in various online gambling sites which includes blackjack, keno, roulette, baccarat, craps, pai gow poker, video poker, slot machines, sic bo, etc. Various games of poker are offered in online poker rooms such as Texas hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven-card stud, Seven-card stud Hi/Lo, etc. These online poker sites offer games in both ring game type and tournament structures. Bookmakers and wagering exchanges offer fixed-odds gambling over the Internet on the results of sporting events. Online bingo rooms also offer games on the Internet, but they use a random number generator instead of balls. Some online poker card rooms and online casinos offer mobile gambling options also.

Online gambling games are played against other players or against the ″house″ in which the house makes its money through the rake or due to the fact that the odds are slightly in its favor. Usually, players upload funds to the online gambling operator, make bets or play the games they offer, and then cash out any profits. Electronic money services such as Firepay, Moneybookers, Neteller, etc. offer accounts with which players can fund online gambling, although common payment modes are by checks and wire transfers.

Any player must be aware of certain factors before participating in any online gambling game. Operating online gambling games without a proper license is illegal. Each state has specific laws against online gambling of any kind. Also gambling operators can cheat the gamblers using some software or refusing to pay. It should also be kept in mind that the gambling games are formatted in such a manner that the probability of winning is determined by the ″house.″

Online Casino Sign-Up Bonus And Match Bonuses - Easy Way To Lose Your Money

Apr 9th, 2009 Posted in Craps | no comment »

Online casinos have many ways to ″trick you″ into gambling. One of the most common ways is offering casino bonuses, which can be divided into several categories. Let’s talk about match bonuses (or online casino sign-up bonuses) today, as it’s the most common online casino bonus.

Match bonuses are often seemingly big in numbers (sign-up bonus as big as $3000 is not a rare thing to see nowadays). Many of these bonuses are very tricky, making withdrawing your winnings as hard as possible. Several players have quit playing at those casinos after they’ve understood that there’s no easy way to gain profit with this bonus. They feel that they’ve been tricked. Hell yeah, I can’t blame them!

Some of these match bonuses really are absurd. Even though, players in these days are not retarded - many of them know that the $888 ″free money″ means cosmic deposits and serious betting activity with real money, leading us to a fact that in the end you’re probably back to ZERO, angry and have no plans to return there.

Online casinos and poker rooms are extremely cautious giving bonuses away. Usually you as a player are not allowed to play blackjack, roulette and craps with your bonus money. And often you can’t withdraw your winnings if you have less than 10x bonus gathered on your casino account. My personal best has been 134 dollars with $16 dollars no deposit bonus money… of course, I gambled it down to zero. I was 26 bucks short to withdraw.

Some casinos (not the ones I prefer!) can afford those high bonuses only because they have low payouts. Not many online gamblers look at payouts when choosing a casino, so beware!

In some cases match bonuses can be used against casinos, but be sure to learn the rules before you start any monkeygambling.

Online Gambling and Online Casinos Guide

Online gambling and online casinos are great for the gambling fanatics. Online casinos offer the opportunity to the gambling lovers to play through the internet, regardless of their location. But, in course of time the online casinos are successful in gaining the license as well as the confidence of the people. Now, online casinos have become well established business with multibillion turnovers.

You can find most of the conventional casino games such as Blackjack, Roulette, Keno, Craps, Video Poker and many more in online casinos. In fact the online casinos are trying to introduce more gambling games or new versions of the conventional games to enhance the enthusiasm of online gambling. However, the revolution in the online casinos happened when 'play for free' games were introduced. It attracted many people to the online casinos, as they can try their luck in the online gambling, without the fear of losing money.

For online gambling for real money you can purchase the chips from the online casino, using any of the cash transfer methods such as Neteller, FirePay, check, money order or wire transfer.

However, online gambling and online casinos are successful because of its main feature that it retains the uncertainty of the play, as in the conventional gambling. And, often the winning of the game will not be easy as you cannot monitor the body language of the opponents which can be very important when playing in an online poker room.

The strategies for the profit from the online gambling, is more or less similar to the conventional gambling. You have to know the game well, prepare the gambling budget and plan where to stop the game, at the start of the game itself. It is advised to practice in the free versions, before getting into online gambling since you can become aware of the possibilities of the game.

Online Casinos are a great invention for every player that likes the thrill of gambling from the comfort of the home.

Craps Strategy – Win and Have Some Fun

Apr 2nd, 2009 Posted in Craps | no comment »

Craps is a game of chance and to win in any game of chance you need to know the best bets with the best odds of success.

If you do play with a craps strategy you have a better chance than if you play roulette or slots, so lets look at how you can play to win.

If you really want a strategy to win, there is only one bet with the best odds in Craps, and that is the passline bet, with the odds at even.

This should be the only bet you place in your craps strategy if you simply want to win.

In Craps and taking into consideration your Craps strategy, as well as our human impatience and the fact we like some action and fun, just waiting for passline bets can be more than boring when you feel the action going on around you.

Any craps strategy can play some "come" bets. You can do this and back it up with some free odds although not as good as the passline bet they add some variety.

The casino odds are also low in this betting strategy. Stay away however from all the proposition bets, as the casino's odds will see you lose.

You're Stake

Whatever your Craps strategy, your stake (bankroll) and winning/losing expectations are crucial.

It seems that many people think doubling their money is a real win. Nothing is more wrong than this. If you are 25% up on what you arrived with, you are a real winner – and this goes for any game of chance With your craps strategy set a bankroll win and lose target and stop playing when either is hit.

If you happen to win, pocket the winnings and some of the original stake. Play what's left, and leave the pocket alone.

The correct mental approach is also very important.

There is no such thing as "my turn is coming". It does not work like that. No throw of the dice has any relation on the next throw; it's a pure game of chance.

Do not personalize the dice's action with your psychology.

This is not mysticism…its Craps, and the dice fall as they will. Lose only what you can afford to lose. Make that very clear to yourself before you start play.

Play for Free

Why not consider the following. Have your stake situation clearly in mind, and make your first "safe" bets. This is your place bet with odds. If you win, take your winning, and normally, the bet stays unless you ask it to be taken up.

More So if you happen to win a second time, leave the winnings and bet (by telling the dealer to 'press it'). Now you are betting with winnings, not your stake.

Try betting on sixes and eights. You have a good chance to win. Should you get your number, you can take it up, or leave it ride (saying press it). You are risking nothing, as these are winnings only.

It's an exciting bet and on the third try, if you win, take it all up. Pocket it. You are already on the winning side.

The Tipping Tip

As you win, take a chip and place a bet for the dealer. This is not really tipping as it is blackjack or baccarat, but nevertheless, it's understood by the dealer as a tip. If the dealer wins, the money bet goes into the dealer's (employee's) kitty.

As for all the Craps Strategies its game of chance if you want to win play the bets where the odds are about even, if you want some fun add in some of the bets above for variety.

If you stick with the bets at breakeven you can play with a better chance of success than any other game of chance and this is the basis of our craps strategy

Don't forget the other components of your craps strategy which are set your bankroll profit and loss objectives in advance, you can also try some of the bets above but keep in mind the odds are less but they can be fun.

So base your craps strategy around either winning at all costs, or add a bit of variety and have fun.

At the end of the day craps is all about entertainment so enjoy yourself.
