Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
