NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
