Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
