Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved participating in numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.
The definite advancement in his game began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would often challenge one another. Howard had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena today. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
