NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
