Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
