Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

July 23rd, 2010 at 7:21

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
