Hold em Strategy – Best Opening Hands

July 17th, 2010 at 8:21

One of the largest problems that I encountered when I first got into Texas holdem was figuring out what cards to wager on in what Position. Typically I would acquire burned on a hand that I thought was a excellent starting hand. Come to find out they were beneficial hands, just not in the position I was betting them from. Here can be a pretty basic list of what sort of hands to play and what position it is suitable to wager on them in. Remember this chart does not factor in raises or suits.

Bet on From Any Position

AA King, King QQ Jack, Jack TT Nine, Nine 88 AK AQ AJ AT King, Queen KJ

Bet on Mid to Late Location

Six, Six 55 King, Ten Queen, Jack QT JT

Bet on in Late Placement Only

Ace, Nine Ace, Eight Ace, Seven K9 King, Eight Queen, Nine J9 J8 Ten, Nine T8 Nine, Eight Nine, Seven

If you are just starting to wager on poker, betting these hands at the suggested positions will help you usually be in a safe placement before the flop. As your casino game progresses, you’ll be able to add much more hands to this list and know how to play them in specific situations. In case you are just beginning to bet on cards, I would recommend playing for nickels and dimes at home or for free at an internet poker website. Poker sites are nice because you have to see quite a few more hands per hour than you do at residence. A few goods sites to play for absolutely free are UltimateBet and PartyPoker.com.
